Golden, BC also has beautiful groomed and tracked cross-country ski trails called the Dawn Mountain Nordic Ski Trails , located up at the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Set for both classical and skating, there are 30km of beautiful gladded trails. From beginners to advanced skiers there is something for everyone. There are also track-set trails at the Golden Golf Course. Another beautiful way to enjoy an afternoon out. We also see skier-set tracks along the Blaeberry River, minutes away from our doorstep.
Golden, BC is also your destination for heli-skiing and cat-skiing. Spend a few days with us and then continue on to other opportunities up in the mountains at Chatter Creek Lodge, Mistaya Lodge, or Amiskwi Lodge. Rogers Pass at Glacier National Park is only a one hour drive from us and is a world class destination for Backcountry skiing and touring. With an average of 12ft of snow, I’ve personally enjoyed some of my best untracked powder days there!
A 1.5 hr drive away is BC’s newest resort; Mount Revelstoke. Renowned for the incredible amount of snow that falls there every year, the Mount Revelstoke Resort is a skier and snowboarder’s paradise.
Kicking Horse Mountain Resort
Canadian Rockies skiing is at it’s finest when you ski at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort , located next to the small town of Golden, BC. Rated as North America’s top place for “powder” by Skiing Magazine, you will be thrilled by the downhill skiing and snow boarding. Canadian Rockies skiing and especially BC skiing is renowned all over the world. Kicking Horse now has snow-making abilities too. With 4133ft of vertical it is the highest resorts in the Canadian Rockies. The Eagle’s Eye restaurant at the top of the gondola is rated as one of the “best restaurants” in Canada (and it’s the highest one as well). Spend your day skiing or snow boarding at the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Quantum Leaps Lodge is usually a 45 minute drive from the Resort.
Backcountry Ski Lodges
Chatter Creek Lodge is a beautiful helicopter access, cat-skiing lodge located on the edge of the continental divide near the Columbia Ice fields and east of Rogers Pass. There you will find incredible scenery, accommodations and powder skiing. For more info on Chatter Creek, you can also drop in at the Travel Information Centre in Golden.
Mistaya Lodge is located on the west slopes of the Canadian Rockies near Yoho National Park. There frequent up slope snowfalls and very dry powder (even for the Rockies) provide us with excellent telemark and alpine ski touring.
Amiskwi Lodge is a situated above Amiskwi pass, just outside of the west boundary of Yoho National Park. At an elevation of 6900 ft (2104 m), Amiskwi is blessed with a winter-time average of 2.5 m snow-pack.
Cross Country and Backcountry Ski Trails
Dawn Mountain Nordic Ski Trails where Nordic ski trails have been developed by the BC forest Service and the Golden Nordic Club. The local ski club maintains a brand new day lodge and track-sets approximately 30 kilometres of trail for classic style and skating technique. Day fee is $10.00. You can also book Cross Country Ski Lessons through the Nordic Club.
Rogers Pass at Glacier National Park – Visitors to the park will find ski touring terrain; including glades, alpine bowls and ice-fields where descents of more than 1500 metres are possible. All ski destinations in the park require knowledge of travel in avalanche terrain. Avalanche Bulletins are available for most areas in BC and Alberta… depending on where you wish to Ski Tour. Always check the avalanche forecasts for current conditions.
