MOVIE TO WATCH
We enjoyed watching the Dallas Buyers Club, Mandela, and 12 Years a Slave..all excellent movies, dealing with deep and profound subjects. Well worth watching on a rainy cool spring night!
Spring is sweetly emerging here in the Blaeberry. I walked down the Labyrinth yesterday and the Buddha is shining through the snow and the rest is silently awakening. We have the Greenhouse planted and going so when the Yoga and Dance retreaters arrive on May 2nd (our first Retreat) we will be eating fresh salad, kale, spinach etc.
What is emerging in you this spring? Like a bear coming out of his/her den looking for fresh greens and food, what are you looking for in your life so passionately and urgently that your life depends on it? Imagine if we all lived our lives like that? Focused 100% on what we need to do to feed our selves physically and spiritually. Well, we just returned from the Esalen Institute and took a Retreat called the MAX! Below are many nuggets of wisdom from our 5 day intensive.

Recipe of the Month
COCOA COFFEE ENERGY BALLS
(from our Cookbook)
Obviously this one is best for adults, great when you need some extra zing!
1/2 cup Raisins + 1 c soaking water
2 cups Rolled Oats
2 cups Coconut
1 cup of love
1/2 cup Almonds
1/4 cup Cacao Nibs
2 tbsp Cocoa Powder
2 tbsp Finely Ground Coffee
1/4 tsp Sea Salt
1/2 cup Honey
1/2 tsp Vanilla
*extra finely ground coffee to roll the balls in
1. Soak the raisins in 1 cup very hot water.
2. In a blender grind the oats until a flour like consistency is achieved, pour into a large bowl.
3. Process the almonds to a fine meal, add to oats.
4. Purée the soaked raisins with enough of the soaking water to make a thick paste, reserve the rest of the soaking
5. Add the cacao nibs, cocoa power, coffee and salt to the bowl and mix well.
6. Add the puréed raisins, honey and vanilla to the bowl and mix well, add the extra soaking water as needed for
the mix to come together to a very think batter.
7. Use a 1 oz scoop or 2 spoons to make 2-inch balls. Fill a small bowl with warm water, dampen your hands and
roll the balls in your hands to make them round.
8. Pour the extra ground coffee in a bowl and roll the energy balls in the coffee.
9. * Energy balls will keep stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
Lessons from the MAX!
Brian and I made a pilgrimage to one of our favourite places in the world…the Esalen Institute in Big Sur California. I took a course called “The Max” while Brian was an assistant. To assist in the Max at the Esalen Institute, Brian wrote this testimonial for the contest Paula was having. It reads as follows…
The most dynamic turning point in my life happened back in the 80′s at Esalen when I looked at the bulletin board and the flyer simply said “If you have the guts, we have the workshop!”. Lou Porter at the time informed me that we would easily be up till 4 AM . said, NO WAY, I’ll fall asleep by midnight! Well not only was I awake the whole time, I was at the edge of my seat, FULLY awake. I was awakening from a deep sleep, psychosis, neurosis I had been in due to emotional trauma (loss of loved ones). Paula, who can “read” someone like no one I had never met, reawakened my soul, my spirit, and my love for living fully alive. As a result I went on to create Quantum Leaps Retreats in Golden BC where I integrate the methodology I learnt in the MAX in my teachings of Breathwork, Fire Walking, Sweat Lodges etc. — I love Paula and her WAY!Brian Olynek
The Max was created “to discover yourself beyond who you know yourself to be. It is a voyage through your own humanity—a journey to discover the extent of your self-expressive power. Employing a variety of acting, communication, and observation techniques, it’s designed to expand your limits “to the max” and move you into a new arena of personal creativity and self-expression”. The experience is so very real and raw and it helps to uncover/peel back the layers that are stopping you from being 100%. And as Paula says “it is an opportunity to experience yourself in ways you may have dreamed about but never thought possible. The course is for those committed and courageous in their process. And it has been constructed with the understanding that this kind of risk requires a very safe workspace. If your heart beats faster when you think of taking THE MAX, it may be just “the thing to do”.
And YES it was a very enlightening and deep experience for myself. So here are some nuggets of wisdom I can can share with you our dear readers…
- own it, or it owns you
- you have to own it to move it
- a thing is what it is
- it is not always going to be comfortable
- go to the edge but not over it
- all roads lead to Rome
- YOU ARE HERE
- stay with the feelings, not the thoughts
- push your boundaries
- don’t get caught up in “your story”
- we need to also express the “unpreferred emotions”
- give it 100%
- what other people think of me is none of my business
- understanding is the booby prize
- we don’t need to seek approval from others
- let go of EGO “edging God out”
So some beautiful tips on how to live life! Now all you have to do is book in for next November’s MAX at Esalen “smile”.
